Backing up your files on the My Book Essential is complete effortless. The instructions are so simple: plug the USB port into the computer, plug power source into the unit, plug usb cable into the unit, follow the onscreen prompt to use the machine to back up files on the My Book. If you want to create specific folders for pictures, music, or such, simply open finder and drag the files to the My Book Essential Icon. I thought I was doing something wrong because it was so easy to use. The purchase of the hard drive is absolute a no brainer!

My assessment of the Western Digital Drives are the best around. I currently own 3 of them. The MyBook Icon 1 TB is a great drive that holds everything I want it to hold. It is so easy to use and looks good to. If I were in the market for a external drive, I would certainly buy the MyBook Icon 1 TB . Great Drive!!

I purchased the MyBook Icon l in January of this year. I am very impressed with iot. It was completely plug and play and works great with my computer, Windows. With this massive amount of storage space, I am able to save everything that I want to save, such as movies, games, pictures, and files. I highly recommend this Western Digital Hard drive.

The MyBook Icon hard drive is the value line from Western Digital’s external hard drive product line. It features just a USB connection. It seems it targeted the price conscious users who need a lot of extra storage space. It is slightly reduced in thickness and weighs in around two pounds.
This hard drive powers up upon plugging in the power cord and the USB connector and is ready to go. The drive will power down after 10 minutes of inactivity. I love this Drive

I love the Western MyBook Iconbecause:
- Turns on and off with your computer
- Works well on Windows Vista, XP and Mac OS X
- Integrates nicely with my growing stable of WD MyBook drives
- Transfer speeds still much better than portable passport drives
- Great price for 1 TB of capacity, which gives you some future growth ability
- 16 MB buffer is still acceptable for faster copying speeds
- Very easy installation, virtually plug and play
- New sleek body, more pleasing to the eye
- So far so good, I haven’t had any of these drives fail
This drive is a great value for those who want a nice capacity drive. It’s better to get a pair to guard against drive failures and backup your backup. Try to get it on sale.
